Our client wanted a simple, modern extension to replace their existing conservatory and add much needed space to their kitchen. The conservatory was rarely usable, being too cold in the winter and too warm in the summer and the space was wasted.
The design concept was to expand the existing kitchen into an open plan multi-use room that could be used by all of the family at the same and brought the outside in.
Unlike the existing conservatory, the extension was designed to be open between the existing building and new space, and as such it would comply with current building regulations for extensions.
Our 150mm insulated SIP wall system and our 175mm insulated SIP roof system exceed the U-Values required of ‘new thermal elements’ and as a fully load tested system, structural calculations were prepared, ensuring that the building complied to building regulations, even before it reached our manufacturing facility.
Upon sign-off of the design by our client, production was scheduled, the SIP panels went into our workshop for manufacture and the full home extension kit was delivered to site.
Our client’s main contractor onsite was able to complete installation of the superstructure in just two days, which is approximately three times quicker than a traditional method of construction.
The main contractor then finished the panels internally and externally on site, following our tried and tested standard details and guidance.
The extension forms an integral part of this young family’s home and our client and his family now have a home that meets their needs, in which they can enjoy the naturally light, multi-functional space that’s been created.
